Term: Limiter

A dynamic range processor that allows audio below a specified threshold to pass through unaffected, but audio above the threshold will be attenuated so that no audio exceeds a user-defined ceiling. Limiters generally provide an extremely fast attack and high ratio to ensure that audio files do not exceed a specified peak level. A clipper is an extreme example of a limiter.
