Diffraction describes how waves bend or change direction as they travel around the sharp edges of obstacles. For instance, high frequencies emanating from a tweeter will bend around the edges of a small loudspeaker’s faceplate and radiate outward in a way that creates comb-filtering interference with the direct signal. Good loudspeaker design minimizes the diffraction effects of a speaker’s faceplate (baffle).
