A speaker that produces only low frequencies, typically below 200 Hz. This speaker may be combined with smaller main speakers to create a full-range system or subwoofers may be used to extend the volume and dynamic range of full-range main speakers. For multichannel and surround systems subwoofers are dedicated to reproducing the low-frequency effects information (LFE). A stereo music system often utilizes one subwoofer but more than one subwoofer can be used for stereo or multichannel systems.
